Inspired by his passion for the land and a love for farming, Chilean Gonzalo Vial decided to launch a new project: a winery that would honour Chile’s origins in its processes and wines. In 1998, the first vines at the Trinidad property were planted in the coastal region of the Maipo Valley, where the new winery was built.
In 1999 the new winery was formally launched, with a name that paid homage to our glaciers in the Chilean Patagonia: Ventisquero, which in Spanish means glacier.
At the dawn of a new millennium, the first harvest took place, led by winemaker Felipe Tosso, and the first Ventisquero wines were released in 2001.
Drawing on advice from Australian winemaker John Duval and thanks to a great team, the winery began to grow. New offices in the United States and Europe were opened, and plantations in other wine regions such as Casablanca and Colchagua were explored. Meanwhile, its wines were gaining recognition in Chile and abroad.
In 2008 Viña Ventisquero planted its first vines in the Huasco Valley, in the middle of the Atacama Desert. During that same year, Viña Ventisquero began growing vines on a new estate in the coastal Leyda Valley.
In 2020 Ventisquero took part of Ventisquero Wine Estates Holding, exporting a wide range of wines to the world, from the best wine regions in Chile.
Ventisquero delivers wines which are different and passionate about the earth, its origins and its fruits. Our impetuous wines are of great quality. We are motivated by ongoing curiosity to achieve a different quality, and we know that to obtain those results we cannot just continue doing the same thing. Instead we must experiment, take alternative routes and challenge the established way of doing things.
Ventisquero is a challenging spirit, certain that passion and nonconformity produce better wines.
Inspired by his passion and love for agriculture, Chilean businessman Gonzalo Vial decided to create a vineyard that would value the origins of Chile at his early 60’s.
In 1998, the first vines were plantated in the Trinidad Vineyard, on the Maipo Valley where the Headquarters of the Ventisquero Wine Estates holding were established. In 2002 the "Ventisquero" brand was created within the wine group. The name Ventisquero, meaning “Hanging Glacier”seeks to honor the imposing glaciers of Chilean Patagonia.
In 2000, with the arrival of chief winemaker, Felipe Tosso, and of Australian winemaker John Duval as a consultant Ventisquero expanded to the United States and Europe, and startes to explore in other wine-producing areas such as Casablanca and Colchagua.
Ventisquero pays homage to the Chilean geography and is reflected in the names of the different wines of the brand such as Queulat, the imposing Patagonian hanging glacier, Grey the huge glacier in the Torres del Paine area. The wine Yelcho honors the lake of the thousands of expeditions in the Aysén area, in the extreme south of Chile.
Ventisquero invites you to venture and live under a Challenging Spirit that seeks innovation and excellence in each glass of wine.
