Ventisquero Grey remains at the cutting edge of bottle closures

At Viña Ventisquero we are constantly innovating and looking to maintain the quality of our wines. That is why we look to put all of the professionalism and love of the viticultural and winemaking teams into each one of our bottles. It’s a dedicated path from the vineyards to the moment the wine arrives at tables around the world.

We want the consumer’s experience to be the best, and that is why we have decided to implement a few changes in our Grey bottles to eliminate the possible effects of the cork on the flavour of the wine, both in oxidation and TCA.

The bottles of Ventisquero Grey Carménère, Grey Cabernet Sauvignon, Grey Syrah, and Grey Merlot will now have DIAM cork closures, that respect the work of the winemaker and eliminate the problem of TCA molecules, responsible for the “corked flavour” that affects between 7 and 10% of all wines.

DIAM is a treated agglomerated cork that goes through a revolutionary process called DIAMANT®, using supercritical CO2 to extract from the cork the compounds that cause sensory deviations. With this closure, great wines conserve their freshness and purity and their fruity notes even after ageing in the bottle.

Meanwhile, for Ventisquero Grey GCM, Grey Chardonnay, Grey Pinot Noir, and Grey Sauvignon Blanc bottles, we have decided to change the cork for a screw cap. We began with Grey Sauvignon Blanc and Grey GCM for the 2017 vintage, and after the favourable results, we will continue with the coming Grey Chardonnay and Grey Pinot vintages.

In this case, we’ve chosen the Stelvin Lux model, whose excellent quality allows the wine to breathe a little without oxidizing, avoiding potential problems of contamination (TCA or TVA) that a cork can cause in wine.

The new closure allows for a desirable and controlled oxygenation of the wine, as well as an evolution in the bottle, while also allowing the wine to maintain its flavour, exactly as the winemaker intended in the winery.
