New Sustainability Management at Ventisquero

Becoming an increasingly sustainable company is the objective of the Ventisquero Wine Estates winegrowing group and for this purpose the Enoviticulture and Sustainability Management has just been created. This new area of the Company is commanded by our chief viticulturist, Sergio Hormazábal.

Ventisquero has been working in sustainability for more than a decade in a transversal way, obtaining excellent, measurable results. An example of this, is the water saving that has been focused on the re-education of the roots and a constant measurement of the soils and has managed to reduce the use of water for irrigation by more than 50% per hectare. One of the areas with the best results are the vineyards of Maipo and Apalta, where the use of water was reduced by 75% compared to what was used 10 years ago.

Another interesting initiative is the "100% Dry Farming" or "Secano" in the Apalta vineyard, where the mountains with clay and granite act as "sponges", and it has been possible to generate 14 hectares of vineyards with ZERO irrigation, saving more 450,000 m3 of water per year.

Sergio Hormazábal, winemaker with vast experience in viticulture, will be the head of this new department of the company that will focus on large-scale sustainability, certifications, ensuring processes, correct use of waste, etc.
